Adult Explorer’s Club
Adult Explorer’s Club - This very special group of adults with many capabilities and quite independent who are diagnosed with autism will spend two weeks at AMAC Camp, but primarily as a base camp, for adventures and trips up and down the East coast. Our Adult Explorers Club meets during the spring and plans their summer activities. They have various places in New York State and the northeast region of the United States. Most recently they toured Niagara Falls, the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown, a hot tub in Vermont, the Saranac Root Beer Brewery, and a fish hatchery.
Programs and Activities - There are many great opportunities; meeting new people, spending time with friends and the Club members can practice in learning Social Integration Skills while on the trip include:
They travel in groups of ten to fifteen with a guide providing general supervision. The members will get the opportunities to improve on their Social Integration Skills; learn and apply said skills that provide for quality-of-life enhancement. Staff will help to encourage focus on the individuals' areas of interest. As a result, the individual(s) will learn how to participate more fully in group activities.

- Aquatics in the indoor pool and hot tub (with lifeguard)
- Decision-making skills
- Fitness awareness
- Interactive conversations
- Interpreting social cues
- Making appropriate choices
- Money management
- Music
- Participating in social, recreational, and leisure activities
- Recreational games and friendly competitions
- Special events
- Team events
- Time management
- Tolerating frustration and exhibiting calming strategies…and using appropriate social etiquette and table manners
